What Your Vedic Birth Chart Shows You
Your Janma Kuṇḍalī is a snapshot of the sky at your first breath. A Vedic chart shows:
- Lagna (Ascendant) — the rāśi rising on the eastern horizon at your birth, the seat of your physical self
- Nine Grahas — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, plus the lunar nodes Rāhu and Ketu
- Twelve Bhāvas (houses) — life domains from self and wealth to marriage, karma, and mokṣa
- Janma Nakṣatra — the lunar mansion holding your Moon, which sets your Mahādaśā sequence
- Pāda and Navāṁśa — finer divisions that refine relationship and dharma readings
Unlike Western astrology, the Vedic chart uses the sidereal zodiac (aligned to the fixed stars) and the whole-sign or North/South Indian square format. This is why your Vedic Sun sign is often different from your Western Sun sign by about 23 degrees — the Ayanāṁśa correction.
What Information You Need
To compute a precise chart, the calculator needs three things:
- Date of birth — day, month, year
- Exact time of birth — to the minute, ideally from a hospital record or birth certificate
- Place of birth — city or village; the tool resolves coordinates and historical timezone automatically
Time matters more than people expect. A four-minute difference in birth time can shift your Lagna into a different rāśi, which changes every house in the chart. If you only know "morning" or "evening," the chart will still compute, but the rising sign and house cusps will be approximate.

What is the difference between a Vedic birth chart and a Western birth chart?+−
A Vedic chart uses the sidereal zodiac (aligned to fixed stars) and the Lahiri Ayanāṁśa correction, while Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac (aligned to the equinox). Vedic charts also use the Nakṣatra system, Mahādaśā periods, and divisional charts like Navāṁśa, which have no Western equivalent.

Does the free chart include Antardasha, or only Mahadasha?+−
Both. Vimshottari Mahadasha is the multi-year chapter; Antardasha is the current sub-period. The free result is meant to show the running pair, not only the major lord.
