Gau Seva — frequently asked questions
What is Gau Seva?
Gau Seva (गौ सेवा) is the sacred Vedic practice of caring for cows — offering feed, shelter, and medical care through verified gaushalas. You can perform it in your own name or in the name of a loved one, even from abroad, and Daanyam connects you with authentic gaushalas so your seva reaches the cows directly.
Why is Gau Seva done?
In Hindu dharma the cow is revered as Gau Mata — a symbol of abundance, purity, and dharma. Caring for cows is a meritorious act (punya) described in the Vedas and Puranas, and is prescribed as a remedial upaya to ease planetary difficulties and honour ancestors, especially when aligned to an auspicious tithi.
How do I book Gau Seva?
Choose your offering above (a day's feed, a week, or a month of care), set the number of cows, add your sankalp name and intention, and complete checkout. Same-day seva closes at 1 PM IST and rolls to the next morning after that; you receive a WhatsApp and email confirmation once it is performed.
How does Gau Seva connect to Jyotish?
Classical Jyotish prescribes Gau Seva as an upaya for specific graha conditions — strengthening an afflicted Moon, easing Shani or Rahu periods, and balancing Mangal dosha. Daanyam matches your seva to the right tithi (Ekadashi, Pradosha, your janma-nakshatra day) using your birth chart, so the offering lands in the most meritorious window.
About Gau Seva
Gau Seva (गौ सेवा) means offering food or care to cows — a sacred act of giving in the Hindu tradition. On Daanyam, you can book verified Gau Seva at partner gaushalas (cow shelters). Choose an offering type — roti, jaggery, palak, or full bhojan — and a duration of 1, 7, or 30 days. Our seva partners perform the ritual in your name at first light, on the panchang date you select.
